I enjoy music and I want you to enjoy the music that I enjoy. So, in this blog, I'm going to be posting albums I like, mixes I make, and maybe some vinyl rips if I ever feel like doing that.
I'm not posting any album leaks and I'm going to generally avoid most new stuff. I don't want to cost anyone money.
If you're in a band or label and I post something of yours and you want it down, let me know.
If you know I have something and you want me to upload it, let me know.
Next, the Holiday EP from 2003. This contains acoustic versions of The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot and The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows, demo versions of Logan to Government Center and Good To Know[...], and, of course, O Holy Night.
Let's go over the contents of this file: - From the Beer: The Movie Soundtrack - Free Flying At Tree Level (Version 1.0) - A 2007 acoustic radio set including The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot, Degausser, Limousine, Coca Cola, and an awesome cover of Neutral Milk Hotel's "Oh Comely" - A demo version of Sic Transit Gloria - Luca (Reprise) from the UK Version of The Devil and God - Alternate versions of Jesus and Millstone from the Jesus single - Acoustic radio version of Me Vs. Maradona Vs. Elvis - 3 Acoustic radio version of Sic Transit Gloria - Car (Acoustic) and Moshi Moshi (Acoustic) from The Quiet Things single - Jude Law and a Semester Abroad (Acoustic) from The Quiet Things 7" - The No Seatbelt Song (Live at CBGB's) from The Quiet Things 7" (2nd pressing) - Soco Amaretto Lime (Moleman Remix) from the Sic Transit Gloria single - aloC-acoC from the Sowing Seasons single - My Nine Rides Shotgun from the Your Favorite Weapon vinyl - An awesome Jesse cover of Jawbreaker's "Accident Prone"
My brother asked me to upload this like a month ago, so I guess I finally should. This contains the acoustic versions of a bunch of songs from Coheed and Cambria's second album, plus a couple of acoustic songs from the singer's side project, The Prize Fighter Inferno. I particularly like the versions of Blood Red Summer and The Light & The Glass.
Does anyone not have this album? I uploaded for my brother so I figured I'd put it on here. I listened to this about 400,000 times since my senior year of high school. I remember being really pissed when Scott got the CD a week before it came out because I was dying for it and he just wanted to rub it in my face. Man, fuck Scott.
Here's a bootleg of a Thorns of Life show. Thorns of Life is the new Blake Shwarzenenfdaofadl; (of Jawbreaker and Jets To Brazil) band, along with Aaron Cometbus and some actress that was on The L Word.
So, here's a 12-song set by them. Pretty cool. I got to see them in November. They need to put something out already.
My friend Scott needed me up upload this, so here it is. Shouty, loud, chaotic indie stuff? God, 'm awful at descriptions. Here's a punknews review:
Colour Revolt recently tagged along in support of Brand New's latest national tour, and they've been blowing up while simultaneously gathering oodles of praise and accolades ever since. This five-piece, hailing from Oxford, Mississippi, play a dynamic style of indie rock. Key word: dynamic. Though only containing six songs, this EP shows an over-abundance of maturity and crafty songwriting, while displaying a lot of genuine moments.
Opener "Blood in Your Mouth" starts off with a dose of harmonica played by singer/guitarist Jesse Coppenbarger, then steadily joined by fellow members. Coppenbarger is quite, quite proficient in conventional singing, which is essential for this kind of music. But one thing he does in spades is his addition of bonafide passion in the form of shouted vocals. This adds an extra oomph to already passionate songs, giving them life. This contrast is best represented on the popular "Mattresses Underwater," which serves as an adequate example of the multiple dynamics the band displays on any given song, including its standout shouted conclusion. The third song, "A New Family," could be considered as reminiscent of bands like Radiohead and Appleseed Cast, but they do not steal this sound, rather adding to it and making it their own. The talent on each song is of notable recognition, with each member possessing an admirable command over their respective instruments.
Closer "Circus" is definitely the heaviest (I hate to use that word for this kind of band) track on the CD, being comprised of mostly shouted vocals. Oh how refreshing it was to first hear this song, because I was expecting a much more orthodox closer, but I was pleasantly surprised. I hope for future releases Colour Revolt does not shy away from this particular aspect, because it is refreshing and gives them some identity in the saturated scene.
I didn't like their full length, but I really, really liked this EP.
I think this is the first thing they did. Sounds like they were experimenting with different styles. "Walked Out This Season" is what got me into them.
The second EP from The Progress, another NJ band. These dudes were real good and I missed them. Pretty much every song on this is a hit.
For an EP, "Golden State" has the feel of a full length album. The Progress' complex but instantly catchy song writing effortlessly weaves these five tracks together. Dual vocal harmonies, interesting time signatures, and captivating lyrics are some of the elements that make "Golden State" such an outstanding EP.
Evan Weiss from every band ever and currently Into It Over It and Damiera played bass and did some of the vocals on this. I'll upload one of his other projects next.
Jeremy Friday Night was a local band from South Jersey from, like, 2001? It's a bunch of kids playing 2001 emo/rock/pop punk/whatever. I'll pay someone $5 a month to write my band descriptions for me.
This upload contains the 7-song These Songs For You, the 4-song demo, and a random horrible recording of "We've Talked Too Much." I loved this when I was 16 or 17, but I'm not really sure how much it'll appeal to you if you didn't listen to this 8 years ago. We'll see!
So, this is an unusual one. I got this email last week:
HI dan, here jacopo from fine before you came, we are an italian band playing emo since 1999. yesterday our new album came out and i'd love you guys to listen to it and if you like it put it on your amazing blog. you can download it for free on our website
So, I finally check it out, and you know what? It's pretty good. And everything is in Italian so you can't tell if the lyrics are corny. Check this out.
So, one of these dudes recently e-mailed me and asked me to check out his bands EP and post it on the blog. I'm really glad I did, because this is pretty good. They're from Atlanta and have a Polar Bear Club/Small Brown Bike/Hot Water Music thing going on. Check out these four songs. They're also 3/5 members of Stranger By Day, if that means anything to you.
"Way Out Of Control couldn't be titled any better - this ep really is out of control! For Science have a style and a sound all their own. There isn't another band out there today that could be confused with them. With this release the band has taken their thrashy, poppy, catchy as all hell, maniacal at times, soulful at other times sound and added to the mix some serious emotional overload, a sweet duet or two, and even a little surf beat track! The songwriting has taken a good leap forward since their debut album - everything that made Revenge For Hire so fun to listen and sing along to is still there, but there's a new added depth lyrically to a lot of these new songs that really hits deep in the heart and the gut. The guitar work on this ep has a real bare bones bedroom shredder style to it. The drumming is top-notch on every track. The bass-lines are simple at the right times and up and down the fret board when they should be. The vocals are beyond compare. John Slover some the greatest screams, howls and wonderfully imperfect high notes in this game. Everything about this ep is perfect right down to the amazing artwork."
I wish I had seen this band before they broke up. Apparently their singer went crazy and quit the band by moving to Hawaii without telling anyone or something? I'll post their last full length sometime soon, that's what really got me into them. But this is good too.
Braid is great, as I'm sure I've posted before. These two compilations compile all of their songs from 7 inches, their covers, and songs from other comps.
Born out of an undying need to create music, Braid pioneers, Robert Nanna, Todd Bell and Damon Atkinson -with the addition of Mark Dawurst(Alligator Gun)on guitar were once again ready to set out and re-negotiate the musical journey that had once been Braid. This record features the angular guitars and syncopated drum beats that were Braid's signature style plus a new songwriting approach that has given Hey Mercedes a style of their own.
Good Old War is made up of a bunch of former members of Days Away, who were great. Now Good Old War is great! Everything's great! The first track, Coney Island, is super catchy, "Weak Man" with Anthony Green is great, and basically it's all good. You should listen to this, please.
Anthony Green is the singer of Circa Survive (and former singer of Saosin, High and Driving, Jeer At Rome, Zolof The Rock and Roll Destroyer, etc), and he has the prettiest voice for a dude ever. This is his solo album, and I really don't care what the music is like as long as I can hear his voice. The bonus tracks include stuff from his High and Driving days and some demos and stuff.
I really can't get enough of this, I've been listening to it every day lately, and I NEVER do it. And it's perfect springtime music. It's got cute guy/girl vocals over really upbeat and poppy music with noodley guitar parts. I picture being 18 and driving around or hanging out in a lake in the summer or something. If you like fun, I strongly implore you to check this out, then go to their myspace and look at their tours dates and go see them in April. I'll be at the Philly date without a doubt.
Fuck, I'm going to be so mad at you if you don't listen to this.
"Flat-out inspiring, wonderful people who immediately light up a room. Intricate and direct, raucous and thoughtful, noodley and restrained. This record puts me in a good mood. Some days it's all I need to get through. Do you like Paul Baribeau, The Weakerthans, and Bridge And Tunnel? I think that would be a great show. Let's set it up!" - Var.
